Commemoration of World Food Day was conducted by Caritas Jaffna-HUDEC at in front of St. Martin’s Seminary, Main Street, Jaffna on 30th of October 2025. The event was presided over by Revd. Fr. A. Anto Denisius, the Director of Caritas Jaffna-HUDEC. Food Security Project beneficiaries from the divisions of Sandilipay, Nallur, Uduvil, and Chavakachcheri, actively participated in the event.  More than 150 beneficiaries participated in the celebration.

The honorable Chief Guest Mr. Maruthalingam Piratheepan, Government Agent, District Secretariat, Jaffna, The Honorable guest Revd. Fr. P. J. Jebaradnam, Vicar General, Diocese of Jaffna, the special guests Mrs .A. Srirangan, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Jaffna, Sri Loganatha Kurukal from Vaddukoddai, Sri Vimalatharma thero and H.M.A. Raleem Mowlavi celebrated this event.

The main theme was “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future”. This theme emphasized global cooperation to address challenges like hunger, malnutrition, and inequality, highlighting the sustainable agriculture, raise awareness about food insecurity, and encourage collective action to reduce global hunger.

In line with this, we encouraged Food Security Project beneficiaries to exhibit their products. They exhibited and sold their local products, including nutritious beverages (such as beetroot juice, carrot juice, lemon juice, Vallarai juice, and hibiscus flower (Semparuthi) juice), food items, doormats, cloth materials, handicrafts, vegetables, fruits, Palmyra products, honey and more.
